Did you know that balsamic vinegar has just as much sugar as creamy salad dressings? Much of the American-made balsamic vinegar is made with caramel coloring and cornstarch, 2 sugary substances, with white wine vinegar.
The authentic, Italian versions require anywhere from 12 to 25-years of aging that negates the need for coloring and thickening additives. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to pay or wait for Italian products to be imported to the United States.
Maybe its time to start using olive oil/red wine vinegar combination as a dressing if you are interested in cutting down on sugar.
